International Protection Officer

About the Role

The International Protection Officer will support and implement community-based violence reduction and protection programming in Sudan, within an active conflict environment with extremely high displacement levels.

The role requires strong commitment to human rights, community engagement, and conflict-sensitive programming in highly complex and insecure settings.


About You

You are an experienced protection professional with strong field experience in fragile and conflict-affected environments. You are comfortable living and working in remote areas with limited infrastructure and can adapt to challenging and rapidly changing security conditions.

Key Objectives / Responsibilities

  • Contribute to project design, strategy development, and adaptation based on field findings
  • Ensure regular reporting, documentation, and updates to senior management
  • Support Monitoring & Evaluation systems and tools in coordination with MEAL teams
  • Build and maintain relationships with local authorities, communities, and stakeholders
  • Provide protective presence and support to vulnerable groups (including child protection and GBV prevention)
  • Conduct conflict analysis and monitor protection risks and trends
  • Develop and support community-based protection mechanisms
  • Facilitate dialogue between conflicting communities and support peacebuilding initiatives
  • Promote participation of women and persons with disabilities in protection activities
  • Coordinate referrals and maintain updated service mapping for protection cases
  • Support HR coordination at field level (recruitment, staff development, internal communication)
  • Support incident management and reporting with team leaders and management

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in human security, civilian protection, or related fields
  • Experience working in complex and insecure environments
  • Experience engaging with authorities, negotiation, or mediation
  • Strong ability to live and work independently in remote field conditions
  • Experience in conflict analysis and protection programming
  • Degree or equivalent experience in law, human rights, international humanitarian law, mediation, or related fields

Working Conditions

  • Remote and physically demanding field environment
  • Possible field bases with tents or basic infrastructure
  • Limited electricity, water, and connectivity in some locations
  • Travel over rough terrain and long distances may be required
  • Highly volatile security context requiring strict adherence to safety protocols
